Private, Public and Academia partners discussed about the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Rwanda
Public and private institutions, Non-Government Organizations and Academia working in the ICT sector came together to discuss about the Fourth Industrial Revolution and what will take Africa to be at the forefront. It was a workshop co-organized by Rwanda Information Society Authority and DMM HeHe.
The discussions focused on various steps to improve the ICT usage within various sectors of development in Rwanda, to unlock its potential for citizen service delivery, customer experience and innovative solutions, for a better life for all.
Participants discussed the opportunities in leveraging technology to efficiently produce and distribute goods and services across the continent. They also shared successful examples of how technology is spurring Africa’s 4th industrial revolution, and encourage its use for citizens.
ICT opens up so many opportunities, not only technology, but the whole ecosystem around technology.
During the discussions, participants debated on the importance of adopting all aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how it reduces the cost of businesses, improve quality and help people raise their capacity.
“It is a revolution that is already happening, it is better we take advantage of it. The world is moving, technology is much needed at every step.” added Innocent Bagamba Muhizi, Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Information Society Authority
Speaking at the employment opportunities that are being hindered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Betty Dusabe, representing the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) argued: “The Fourth Industrial Revolution is happening at a wide and global level standard. We should then be well prepared to face the challenges that come with it, including the decrease of some jobs due to automation. We are required to industrialize the businesses. Empower our youth to come up with ICT innovations that are exportable.”
In conclusion, Innocent Muhizi, RISA CEO pointed out that RISA works with Public Service Federation/ICT chamber to facilitate youth increase their innovations. He reiterated that the Government’s role is to create an environment that is harmonious to everyone to participate and provide space where private sector, citizens and civil society play their role.
