ICT SECTOR PAID TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI
Today May 9th, 2023 the ICT sector led by the Ministry of ICT and innovation and its affiliated institutions paid tribute to the victims of Genocide against the Tutsi at Kigali Genocide Memorial.
The commemoration activities started with laying wreath of flowers at National Post Office monument to pay tribute to 26 former employees of National Post Office killed during the Genocide against the Tutsi.
At Kigali Genocide Memorial, staff toured memorial exhibits showing how the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi was planned and executed by the then Government until it claimed the lives of more than a million Tutsi in 1994. After the visit they paid tribute to more than 250,000 Tutsi laid to rest at the memorial by laying wreaths of flowers on mass graves.
In her speech, the Minister of ICT and Innovation and the guest of honor highlighted how Rwandans were close and united before colonialism and how it changed over time with the influence of colonialists during first and second republics till it culminated into the genocide against the Tutsi. She comforted survivors and thank Inkotanyi for giving Rwandans a peaceful country where everyone is free and safe. She concluded by calling upon the audience to fight against genocide denial which is mostly spread through social media platforms.
The commemoration event brought together Ministry’s affiliated institutions which include Rwanda Information Society Authority - RISA, National Cyber Security Authority – NCSA, National Identification Agency - NIDA, National Post Office – NPO, Rwanda Space Agency -RSA and private partners.
