Drone ecosystem development in Rwanda should focus on addressing specific needs of the society
This Wednesday November 29, various stakeholders in drone industry in Rwanda gathered in a meeting to create a dynamic platform that encourages knowledge exchange, strategic partnerships, and the collective pursuit of advancements in Rwanda’s drone ecosystem. The meeting was held under the theme "Unlocking Opportunities: Advancing Rwanda’s Drone Ecosystem".
More in details, this meeting aimed at promoting collaboration among diverse stakeholders to propel Rwanda’s drone ecosystem forward, sharing insights and knowledge pertaining to opportunities, challenges, and best practices within the drone industry, showcasing innovations by highlighting innovative projects and initiatives within the drone sector to inspire and drive further development and engage in discussions about the regulatory framework and policy initiatives essential for cultivating a thriving drone industry in Rwanda.
Participants included representatives from public institutions, the private sector, academia, and other partners involved in drone projects.
While opening the meeting, Honorable Minister of ICT and Innovation Mrs Paula Ingabire emphasized that for the last 7 years drones have been supporting Rwanda’s socio-economic aspirations in health, agriculture and conservation. She further reiterated that building a culture of innovation and leveraging digital technologies are a sure deal to building the knowledge-based economy that Rwanda wants.
The meeting was marked with discussion panels on various topics, group breakout sessions and presentations.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of Rwanda Information Society Authority, Mr. Innocent Bagamba Muhizi said that the intent of putting in place a Drone Operation Center is to equip the drone’s facility in a way that everything about drones, not only gadgets but also what they are able to do to the society are collected at one place for better coordination. He said: “It is not about having that facility itself, but far more ideas and other innovative projects and companies that are going to be born out of that facility”.
He thank all stakeholders and called them upon to join their efforts to make the Drone Operation Center in Huye operating.
